English 488 Portfolio Learning Outcomes and Assessments Course Description Culminating course in which students will synthesize knowledge of English Language Arts and pedagogy to construct and present the CTL Electronic and the English 430 Program Assessment Portfolios representing competencies as required by the state of Washington for endorsement in English Language Arts Pass No Pass Students will present their portfolios to an audience of teachers English department faculty and peers in order to demonstrate attainment of these state targets and standards Targets Standards 2 2 Demonstrate how reading writing speaking listening viewing and thinking are interrelated 7 2 Display an understanding of the role of technology in communication 8 1 Use major sources of research and theory e g books periodicals reports classroom data proceedings of professional conferences videotapes electronic and non electronic databases to understand the relationship between theory and practice 9 1 Examine evaluate and select resources such as textbooks other print materials video film recordings and software which align with the English language arts curriculum and support continued professional growth 9 4 Develop interdisciplinary teaching strategies and materials Artifacts Assessments Genre Study Unit and Assignment Design Rubric 422 Teaching Plan Rubric Film Video Instructional Resource Guide Rubric Genre Study Unit and Assignment Design Rubric Film Video Instructional Resource Guide Rubric 422 Teaching Plan Rubric Genre Study Unit and Assignment Design Rubric Film Video Instructional Resource Guide Rubric 422 Teaching Plan Rubric Genre Study Unit and Assignment Design Rubric Film Video Instructional Resource Guide Rubric Grading Pass Fail In order to receive a passing grade in this course students must include all required artifacts in the portfolios and make a formal presentation to an audience of peers practitioners and English department faculty Students must include in the electronic Live Text portfolio all of the artifacts listed above Students must place the following artifacts products in the Secondary English Program Assessment Portfolio notebook Practicum Journal entries evaluated by the instructor or peers Practicum Goals Statement and Letter to Practicum Teacher Pedagogy Letter Practicum Lesson Plans Final Journal Reflection Dispositions Rubrics completed by student course instructor and practicum teacher Praxis II Score ADA Statement Students who have special needs or disabilities which may affect their ability to access information and or material presented in this course are encouraged to contact me or Disability Student Services at 963 2171 for additional disability related educational accommodations
