Game Design Document“Stole Your Bike!”Game Design Document“Stole Your Bike!”Chris LesnieskiCIS 487 – Introduction to Game DesignDr. MaximOctober 19, 2005Introduction:The player is put into the shoes of a character whom we assume to bein his mid-20s. He awakes one day to find his bike stolen from hisporch. As this is his only form of personal transportation and a piece ofprivate property which he takes pride in, he will exert as much effort ashe can to find his bike and the person who stole it.List of Objects and their Interactions:Non-Animate Objects- WalletThis is used to hold the players money, which is a globalvariable named currentFunds. Given to the player oninitialization.- KeysThese are used to unlock the player’s bike lock from the racklater in the game. Given to the player on initialization.- ComputerThis object serves no purpose but it is within the playersbedroom for realistic purposes.- BedOn this object are a cat and a folder of papers. In order to getthe serial number, the player must find a way to get the cat towake up and then to also get off the papers.- CatThis should have been created as an animate object, but wasbuilt into the game before I was aware of the ‘animate’ type. This is an object that prevents the player from easily gettingthe serial number for the stolen bike. First it needs to beawakened by rubbing it and then turning on the laser pointerto get it off the bed.- NightstandThis object contains a cell phone, an alarm clock (for looks),and a laser pointer.- Cell PhoneThe player can use this in the game to take a picture of theirstolen bike and present the photo to police as proof of it’swhereabouts.- Laser PointerThis object is used, once the cat is awake, to get the cat tojump off the bed and the folder of papers.- Alarm ClockThis item exists solely for cosmetic purposes.- FolderIn here the serial number for the bike is contained. Once thecat jumps from the bed, this item will be accessible.- Serial NumberWith this item, the officer can fill out and file a police report.Once the report is filled out, police will then be able to arrestthe thief and let the player take his bike back.- Hot DogEach one of these costs the player a set amount. It is edible, however, thus allowing the player inadvertently mess up theirown game. This item is meant to be given to the bum in theunderpass room. In exchange he will give you a bus pass.- RailBelonging to the porch object, this item is here for cosmeticreasons only.- Library BookThe friend has this book originally. After the player inquiresfurther about what he heard from his friend’s mouth, thefriend asks the player if he’d like to return a book to thelibrary. If the answer is yes, the book is then moved to theplayer for him to return at the library. If this task iscompleted, the librarian there will offer up a hint as to wherethe player should look for his bike.- Bus PassOriginally in possession by the bum, this bus pass will allowthe player to ride the bus (open the door between the busdepot and the bus stop) infinitely many times. This item isgained by giving the bum a hot dog when he asks for food.- Phone Cam PictureThis item is stored at the thief’s house until the player takes apicture of the bike. Using this item back at the police station, the officer will then take the player with him and arrest thethief and let the player ride away on their recaptured bike.- BikeThis item is originally concealed at the thief’s house. If theplayer decides to try and take it, the thief will come out of thehouse. If the player also has the bike lock in their possession, this will act as a weapon to ward off the thief and end thegame as a win. If the player does not have the lock, however, the game will end as a loss.- Bike RackThis object is in place for the reason of letting the player findtheir bike lock still locked to the rack.- Bike LockWhen it’s originally found, this item is still locked to the rackrequiring the player to unlock it and then take it if they sochoose to. This item is used by the player defend themselfduring the final scene.Rooms as Objects- L_BedroomThis is the only secrete room in the game. It is accessed bypaying close attention to the opening dialog. Here, valuableitems are picked up that serve to be useful later on: the serialnumber for the bike and a cell phone.- L_VendorIn this room, the user can choose to buy a hotdog from thevendor. No other useful information or items are gained fromthis room.- L_PorchHere is where the player first starts the game at. No usefulitems are able to be picked up in this room.- L_LibraryWhile in the library, the user has the chance to gain someuseful information on where to find his bike. If the player hasvisited the friend’s house already and chose to return thelibrary book, it may be turned in here.- L_BackAlleyOne of the three rooms which really serve no other purposethan to allow transitions and logical movement within theenvironment. No useful information or items are found here.- L_2ndStreet1This is the second of three rooms which facilitate seguesbetween more interesting locations in the game.- L_FriendsHouseA location that should be explored early in the game. Ananimated object occupies this room (friend) and will give youa useful item (book) if you ask the right questions.- L_BusDepotHere we see the only inclusion of a door within this game. The door leads from the bus depot to the bus stop and viceversa. Here either money or the bus pass may be used to“unlock” the door to get to the bus stop.- L_ 2ndSt2This is the last of the rooms that give the map a little morelogical spacing.- L_UnderpassIn this room the player encounters another animate object(bum). A useful item may be traded for an item they mightcurrently have stored in their inventory.- L_PoliceStationLots of things happen here. First, there is another animateobject (police officer) whom the player should talk to on twoseparate occasions. All of the other animate’s really don’tneed to be visited again. The officer asks for a serial numberof the bike and fills out a police report. After finding theirbike, the player can take a picture of it and
