Log on to http://www.footprintnetwork.org Take the ecological footprint quiz, noting the results. 1) What is your Ecological footprint? (How many acres?) NOTE: go to link: footprint for you at the bottom of the list of links. For all of the selections choose from the “Enter Detailed Information for more accurate answers” and go through and answer all the questions. 2) How many earths would be required to support a planet in which everyone lived as you do? 3) What factors in your life style, background, or current situation contribute most to your overall footprint? Why and how do you think this may be? Part II Take the quiz three more times. Each time change only ONE of your original answers and note how it affects your results. 4) Which three changes did you incorporate in each of the three quizzes? 5) Which particular changes appear to cause the most ecological benefit and why? State at least one change and the reason you think this change made such a difference in your score. 2 6) Of these three changes, which one are you most likely to implement in your life (i.e. which would be the easiest)? Why? NOTE: click on “explore scenarios” to see simple actions to reduce your footprint.” 7) Is the easiest factor to change also the one that would cause the greatest ecological benefits? Why or why not? What makes some choices more difficult than others? (Reflect here on the difference between what would be the change you are most likely to make, and what would be the change most likely to make a big impact.) 8) In light of this activity, to what degree do you feel that the global population is a factor in environmental change, relative to consumption, affluence, and lifestyle?
