McGrawHill – REQUIRED.THE COURSE DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES CAN BE FOUND IN THE COURSE MANUAL. COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND EVALUATION PROCESS:Examinations: Four exams @ 100 points each will be given over the course of the semester (See tentative course outline for specific dates). Students must be present for all examinations unless prior arrangements have been made. WITHOUT PRIOR NOTIFICATION AND APPROVAL, NO MAKE-UP EXAMS WILL BE GIVEN. Assignments: There will be four assignments worth a total of 100 points. These will be furtherdiscussed in class and are described in the course manual as well as the course website. All assignments will be due at the start of class on the given date. Assignments turned in at the end of class will result in a 50% deduction of the possible points and any assignment turned in after this time will result in a 75% deduction of possible points. NO ASSIGNMENT WILL BE ACCEPTED MORE THAN 1 WEEK AFTER IT IS DUE. Attendance: Bonus points can be earned by attending class on a regular basis! It is expected that you will attend class on a regular basis. Attendance will be checked periodically throughout the semester. For each time it is checked, those in attendance will earn a bonus point. A maximum of 7 bonus points can be earned through this method.Evaluation process: Grade will be based on the total number of point accumulated on the activities described above. Four exams (100 points each) 400 pointsTest Well Assignments (pre & post, each worth 10 points) 20 pointsIndividual Physical Wellness Assignment 30 pointsWellness Passport Assignment 50 points500 points possible90% of total points or more = A80 – 89.9% of total points = B70 – 79.9% of total points = C60 – 69.9% of total points = Dless than 60% of total points = FThe +/- system will be used at the discretion of the instructor. Do not assume that a grade of 89.6% will automatically be “rounded up” to 90%Honor CodeThe Honor Code is followed in this class. Any student who is found guilty of an honor violation will receive an “F” and will not be permitted to re-take that course on a “repeat/forgiveness” basis. Any questions regarding academic dishonesty should be directed to the instructor. Questions concerning the honor system should be directed to the Honor council @ x6383 or www.jmu.edu/honor.Classroom Behavior:Covered drinks are allowed in this classroom, but food is not. Please be respectful of those around you who may be trying to learn. Respect each individual’s right to ask questions and clearly express their thoughts and opinions. Understand that talking, CELL PHONES, reading the newspaper, doing other work, surfing the internet, IMing with friends/family and sleeping can be disruptive to your classmates and your instructor. Should you exhibit disruptive behavior,don’t be surprised if you are asked to leave the class or hand over your electronic devices. CISAT Attendance Policy/Administrative WithdrawalAny student registered for a class in the College of Integrated Science and Technology who does not attend the first two (2) scheduled meetings of the class MAY BE administratively dropped from the class. Students dropped for non-attendance will be notified via e-mail by the department through whichthe class is offered. Students who fail to attend the first two meetings of a class for which they are registered but who have not been sent an e-mail notification need to be aware that they have not been administratively dropped by their instructor. All students are responsible for verifying the accuracy of their schedules and any changes made in their schedules via e-mail. This can be done through the web at www.jmu.edu/registrar.POLICIES AND DATESStudents are responsible for registering for classes and verifying their class schedules on e-campus.The deadline for adding a Fall Semester class without instructor and academic unit head signatures is Tuesday, September 5, 2006. Instructor and academic unit head signatures are required to add a Fall Semester 2006 class between Wednesday, September 6, 2006 and Thursday, September 14, 2006.No student will be allowed to register for a Fall Semester class after Thursday, September14, 2006.
