Although the darkroom chemicals are not dangerous, the possibility of cross chemical contamination is very real. The result of contamination would be poor negative and or print quality. The darkroom has two primary areas; a dry area (around the enlargers, print trimmer and print dryer) and a wet area (the sink and print washer). You must make every effort to never take anything wet to your enlarger station. After processing a print, make sure your hands are rinsed off and dry. Following these darkroom procedures, keeping the darkroom and your hands clean, will help prevent problems due to cross chemical contamination. Handle your negatives very carefully. They are easily scratched. When you have finished printing, first return your negative to your negative page, then clean up your enlarger station and return it to its original state. Be sure to take the contrast filter out of the enlarger and put it back in the pouch. NOTE: Any negatives left in the darkroom will be placed in the lost negative box. If you lose a negative, look in the box. It might be there. Keeping up with your negatives and other darkroom supplies is your responsibility. Finally, access to the darkroom will end the day your final project is due. In other words, your final project will need to be printed and finished before the day it is due. Grading: Grades will be given for weekly and bi-weekly assignments, a mid-term exam, and a final project. Assignments must be turned in on time*. If you are late turning in your assignment, you will receive one grade lower than what it would normally have received. Assignments will not be accepted after one week from the due date. If after you have turned in an assignment and think you can do better, bring me the assignment redone along with the original assignment and I’ll reconsider the first grade given. This can be done at any time during the semester. If you miss the mid-term examination, you may take it at a later date if sufficient reason is documented for the absence. Grading toward the end of the semester will be based upon completion of projects and on print quality. Your prints should be showing better quality as the semester progresses. *On Time means the assignment is to be finished before the beginning of class.3 Class Attendance is MANDATORY. Excessive absences (four or more), or failure to complete class requirements will result in a failing grade. Note: If you enter the class after attendance is taken, it is your responsibility to speak to me at the end of that class period to inform me of
