The English, Reading, and English as a Second Language (ESL) Department considers attendance essential for student success. Therefore, the Department adheres to the following attendance rules:a. Fall and Spring Semesters: A student enrolled in a class that meets three times per week is permitted six absences;after the seventh absencek, the student fails the course. Astudent enrolled in a class that meets twice a week is permitted four absences and fails after the fifth absence. Astudent enrolled in a class that meets once a week is permitted two absences and fails after the third absence.The English, Reading, and ESL Department makes no distinction between excused and unexcused absences. The Department’s concern is the number of absences, not the reasons for the absences.2. A student who is absent from a class, for whatever reason, is responsible for obtaining information about the material covered in class and the assignments announced in class. A student is always responsible for submitting on time assignments announced while he or she is absent.3. Unless excused by the instructor, a student who arrives late or leaves early will be treated as absent.Course Materials1.
