U.S. POSTAGEPAIDEastern Washington UniversitySpecial Leadership Classes!This summer we are adding a leadership component for section leaders, band officers, captains or any other student who can help your band program by taking on a leadership role. Guest clinicians from International Marching Clinics, Eastern faculty and Eastern students form a team that will instill teamwork, motivation, character building and confidence. Your leaders will come away with the tools they need to lead others in a positive way. This camp has been extremely popular for drum majors, and now you can include all of your student leaders!International Marching Clinics (IMC) has excited thousands of directors and students throughout North America, Japan and Europe. IMC offers an innovative, enthusiastic and positive approach to marching band. The IMC program helps high school students develop individual expertise and enthusiasm, while mastering the ideals of leadership and teamwork. Students and band directors can then use these new-found skills to inspire their own marching band auxiliary units in the fall.Workshop Fee OptionsA residential fee of $250 includes three nights lodging, all meals, three full days of expert instruction, a camp T-shirt and use of recreational facilities.A commuter fee of $190 excludes meals and lodging (individual meals may be purchased on campus if desired).When we receive your registration and deposit, we will mail you a packet of detailed information, including suggestions of what to bring, a map and camp rules.Workshop HighlightsDuring the time you spend with us, you willreceive training in the following areas:• body movements• conducting• esprit de corps• leadership skills• marching techniques• motivation• music selection• performance tips• routine development• salutes• squad unity and teamwork• stretching and conditioningOur notable instructional staff will use classroom, workshop, practice and performance settings to hone your skills and tighten your performance techniques.Heather Wisswell is a flutist and graduate music education and performance major at EWU.Rich Sonnemaker is a music education major at EWU and a low brass specialist.Devin Otto is the former Assistant Director of Bands at EWU and instructor of tuba, clinician and former member of the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps.Workshop and Recreation FacilitiesWorkshop sessions will be held in Eastern’s Music Department, part of the University’s modern Fine Arts Complex. This facility houses a versatile 250-seat auditorium, two large ensemble rehearsal rooms, 30 practice rooms, three large classrooms and numerous other labs and instructional areas for music, art, theatre and electronic media and film majors at Eastern.We also will hold some sessions in Eastern’s $12.5 million health, athletic and recreational facility, one of the finest in the Pacific Northwest. Features range from a climbing rock for mountaineering practice to the imposing 5,500-seat Reese Court and Special Events Pavilion.Among the most frequently used facilities are weight training rooms, an indoor pool, racquetball courts and an indoor track. Also popular are basketball courts, a dance studio and tanning booths. During scheduled recreational breaks, you will be free to use most of these facilities.Supervision and DisciplineSupervision will be provided by counselors and instructors, with additional support from EWU security personnel. Directors reserve the right to dismiss any participant for any serious violation of regulations or for behavior found to be inconsistent with the camp philosophy. Tuition will not be refunded in cases of expulsion or voluntary withdrawal from the Band Leadership and Drum Major Camp.Insurance/Medical InformationAll participants must provide their own medical insurance. An insurance information form is part of your registration form and must be completed. We cannot assume responsibility for accidents or illness. A medical form will be sent to you and must be signed by your physician and received by us by the first day of the workshop.
