All courses are offered this Fall. The Capstone Program encompasses 4 semesters: - BIOL 295: Research Fundamentals. Principles of research: formulating hypotheses, designing experiments, making observations, and drawing conclusions. One Credit. - BIOL 395: Directed Investigation in Bioinformatics.* Using the tools of bioinformatics to conduct independent research that creates new knowledge. Students will pursue unique projects, collecting and interpreting data on newly-sequenced genomes to be shared with the scientific community. Two Credits. - BIOL 494: Independent Bioinformatics Research.* Testing hypotheses, generating new data, and interpreting findings through intensive independent research on unexplored genomes. Two Credits. - BIOL 495: Research Communication (W course). Communicating the methods, results and conclusions of research. Provides students with the skills to effectively communicate, in oral and written form, with a professional audience. This course is open this Fall to all who have at least one semester of independent research experience Two Credits. *Students may also conduct their own research independently with the support of a faculty advisor, substituting two semesters of BIOL 491: Research for BIOL 395 and 494. To begin Semester 1 this Fall, register for: BIOL 295 Section 501: Research Fundamentals, meeting Wednesday 1:50-2:40 with Prof. Keith Maggert. Questions? Contact [email protected] or visit
