How is defensiveness and supportiveness played out in relationships? Know the stages to Knapp’s Life cycle model. Be able to know the different stages. Know what Kilmann and Thomas model of conflict resolution. Know the six-step model of negotiation: Analyzing the negotiation situation, planning for the upcoming negotiations, organizing, gaining/maintaining, closing the negotiations, and continuous improvement. Also know principled negotiation and the four “rules of thumb.” Lecture 12Know the statistics of lying in relationships. Why do couples lie to each other? Ethics is the study of the general nature of morals and the specific moral choices a person makes. Know Aristotle’s golden mean, Kant’s categorical imperative, bentham and Mill’s utilitarianism, Rawl’s principle of justice and the three principles most commonly used in making ethical decisions. Know what plagiarism, and paraphrasing is. Lecture 13Lippard-five reason of lying: to protect/acquire material resources, to decrease/increase, to avoid conflict, to protect. Bok-moral excuses for lying: to avoid harm, to produce benefits, for fairness, for sake of unknown truth. Be able to know why disclosing secrets also have ethical dimensions. What is Whistleblowing?
